Bob Steele – The Key Traits of the Entrepreneur Mindset

There’s something different about entrepreneurs. They don’t seem to be made of the same stuff as the rest of us. Not everyone can build a business and push it forward until it’s successful. If you want to be an entrepreneur, it’s useful to know these key traits and foster them in yourself.

Driven by Passion

Entrepreneurs don’t sit in office cubicles and wish they were doing something else as they go about their boring jobs. In fact, they can’t sit still that long. Entrepreneurs are driven by passion. They’re passionate not only about their topic area but also about making businesses succeed. To be an entrepreneur, you have to be willing to ditch the day job and pursue your passion (or get through the day somehow and stay up nights building your business).

System Thinking

Entrepreneurs are system thinkers. What this means is that they see things in the big picture and take in the whole system at once. This is how they’re able to run something as complicated as a business. Beyond just their business, they see the market and the world at large as the system that it is. This is how they can fit their business into it. So, if you want to be an entrepreneur, stop focusing on the small parts and take in the big picture.

Childlike Wonder

Across the board, any entrepreneur will tell you that they’re a child trapped in an adult’s body. What they mean by this is that they have that curiosity and sense of wonder that kids have, and that most adults lose by the time they grow up. Like a kid in a candy store, an entrepreneur is hungry to know about everything and they have boundless energy for new things.

Think You Can Do It Better?

If you’re an entrepreneur, the answer to this question is, ‘Yes, I do.’ Entrepreneurs are good at evaluating things and finding their weaknesses so that they can improve upon them. They’re never satisfied with what they see in the world and are convinced that they can do it better. In fact, they’re driven insane by things that don’t work well or aren’t efficient.

Crazy or Genius?

By nature, entrepreneurs are rebels and they don’t follow rules. Not only that, they’re totally unafraid to be called crazy, which they often are for their bold and iconoclastic ideas. When an entrepreneur has a good idea, they know it’s a good idea, no matter what anybody else says.

Addicted to Information

Finally, entrepreneurs are information junkies. They absolutely have to know about the latest news and they need to be on the crest of the wave. Entrepreneurs are people that are constantly plugged in and looking for opportunities.

Do you have these traits? If so, you’re an entrepreneur at heart. If not, you can foster these traits within yourself.
