Niche Down – How to Get Specific

Online, niche is everything. The internet allows people with very specific interests to connect with like-minded souls and find the products they want. For an ecommerce store or internet marketer, the more specific a niche you choose the better. You’ll have a smaller group as your market, but they’ll be avid and primed to buy. Here are some ways to niche down.

Sub Niche

The most obvious way to niche down is to simply pick a subcategory within your niche. Take a specific topic within your topic. If you’re a pet supply store, focus on snail supplies. If you have a recipe website, niche down to breakfast recipes only. If you know your market and your topic well, this is easy.

Another way to niche down is to pick a certain segment of your market and focus on them. For example, you can niche down your weight loss site to focus on new mommies. If you have a business-related site, you can focus on online freelance service providers. Take one specific demographic chunk of your audience and focus your efforts on them.

Specific Needs

Content marketing works best when you address your audience’s needs and problems. One way to niche down is to pick a specific need or problem and offer solutions to it. For the home improvement niche, focus on one specific problem homeowners face. If you’re in the gardening niche, focus on a certain type of pest or weed.

A wonderful way to niche down is to focus on a specific geographical area. This is wonderful because as more people use the internet with mobile phones, local keywords are becoming more important. Even if you have an ecommerce store that’s online and therefore everywhere all over the world, you can still focus on marketing to a certain area.

You can get specific by focusing on a certain tool that’s used in your niche to solve problems or get things done. For example, you can create content on how to build a successful blog using WordPress. This is an especially good idea if you sell the tool or items related to it.

Finally, you can niche down to a specific technique. This is similar to marketing to a certain tool. For example, you might be in the golfing niche and focus on how to meditate to improve your golf game.

Take a pen and paper and brainstorm a list of ideas for niching down. Let the ideas fly and don’t judge or edit. Once you have a list, go over it and pick a few you like. Do some research online to see if anyone is already doing them. If they are and you still want to do it, try to think of a unique twist or angle, or niche down even further.
